The Great Bengaluru Bake Show 2019 – After event wrap up

Let me be honest, when you are working with something as tempting as cakes, it gets so simple to build a crispy and colourful after event wrap up. The Great Bengaluru Bake Show held on 26th January 2019 was the first and the biggest event of its kind held in the IT capital of India. We, homebakers.co.in, started our journey from our event held in Hyderabad in November 2018 and based on the positive responses that we had received there, we put our heart and soul to bring in the same platform for the Bangalore home bakers. There was something for everybody present in the event, if not the baking/ cake dressing tips, then at least the cake (there’s laughter in my head right now).

Well, baking may be regarded as science, but in reality it’s the chemistry between the ingredients and the cook that gives desserts life. Baking is always done out of pure love to share with family and friends, to actually see them smile, and homebakers.co.in did put innocent smiles on the faces of everyone who attended this event. We had launch of homebakers.co.in for Bangalore chapter of our fellow home bakers, expert sessions, panel discussion, cake competition, and so much more and all under one roof, amidst the finest bakers the town has ever seen. 120 home bakers attended the show including the fellow bakers from Indore, Delhi, Noida and few other cities. And trust me one this, it was one of the best morale boosters for the entire team.

The cake competition:

We had about 50 entries to the competition and each and every cake looked extraordinary. Every judge at least once mentioned that they liked the high quality of cakes that came in for the competition. Beyond the looks, the cakes tasted amazing too. The bakers not only brought out their tasty baking skills out, but also the hidden artist within them. The winners and runners up for each of the four categories of the competition are as follows:

Our judges, Ms. Arati Mirji (Top 10 cake masters of India and the winner of Cake Masters Magazine Sugar Flowers award 2018. She is also a first place Gold winner at Cake International, 2018), Ms. Joonie Tan (Pastry Arts Instructor at Lavonne Academy of Baking Science and Pastry Arts), Mr. Samir J R (Top 10 cake masters of India and the Director of Sugar art at Whitecaps International School of Pastry), Ms. Hima Bindu (Top 10 cake masters of India and the Managing Director and Cake Artist at Cakes and Crumbs), Ms. Parrejat Boraah (owner of Ecstasy Homemade Kreation), Mr. Avijit Ghosh (Chief Corporate pastry chef at Leela’s and brand ambassador of Calebaut India) and Ms. Divya Haldipur (cake designer and owner at Itsy Bitsy Bytes) had the toughest time ever judging the winners. And let me tell you, every baker who competed in the competition was a winner. Mr. Avin Thaliath from Lavonne, Ms. Deepali Sawant and Ms. Jeyadra Vijay Selvan had exclusive workshops as prizes for the winners.

All the cakes that were part of the competition, were donated to our charity partner - Robin Hood Army. They’re a volunteer based, zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people.

The expert sessions:

From session on Chocolate mouldings to exotic bread recipes to Boosting social media reach, The Great Bengaluru Bake Show had it all. The entire audience was engrossed in each session and they loved it and definitely took away so many tips and tricks. The best part according to me was there was an eager to learn and the audience did come up with a lot of doubts from the beginning till the end. Learning it from the horse’s mouth was the USP for each session. Every session was a big hit and all thanks to the experts Ms. Lubna Gafoor, Mr. Avin Thaliath, Ms. Hima Bindu, Ms. Parejaat Boraah and Mr. Prashant Kumar.

The panel discussion:

During panel discussion o' clock, a different sort of energy could be found amongst the bakers. They wanted to know if their mentors had dealt with the same struggles that they are going through right now. The panel discussion included Ms. Arati Mirji, Mr. Samie J R, Ms. Hima Bindu, Ms. Joonie Tan, Chef. Avin Thaliath, Ms. Parrejat Boraah and was moderated by Ms. Lubna Gafoor.

The audience’s experience:

Well, since I was a kid, I have always been told by my teachers that when you have questions post every session that is an indicator that you really were interested in the session and that you enjoyed it. And, I received a live example of the same at The Great Bengaluru Bake Show. The audience not only came from different parts of Bengaluru and outside city to compete in the competition and win exciting prizes and promote them, but also learned so much in each and every session that was organised. We received so many positive responses and feedbacks before, during and after the event that it only motivated us to keep doing the same work with so much love and dedication.

As a Baker on www.homebakers.co.in, they can set their bakery location, list various products by uploading photos, choose the minimum product preparation/delivery days, price the product that they want to charge, select the radius in kms that they’re happy to deliver, set the minimum and maximum order value for both delivery and pick up and select the bakery open and close days in case they are on vacation. Once the products are listed, it is one of the most cost effective way to reach out to the consumers. When somebody orders a cake, we notify the baker to prepare and deliver the cake. For payments, it is currently cash on delivery, however we will soon enable card payments to ease the entire process.

The website for the customer works in three simple steps:

(1) Search:Select location for delivery, choose the type of bakery product and click on search.

(2) Select and Order:Select your product from a home baker and place your order

(3) Delivery:Pick up your freshly baked order or get it hand delivered.
