Apple Crumble Bars
A crumble is essentially like a pie but a little more rustic - it usually comprises of flour and butter which forms the basic base, and can be elevated by adding other ingredients and aromatics to it. The crumble acts as the base of the dish, which can then be topped with anything of your choice. Crumble bars are even more convenient, it turns out as a portable crumble or one which you can easily serve with ice cream.
The recipe here is for Apple Crumble Bars. The crumble is made of flour but also oats and almonds, which helps add nutrients to the dish. This dish changes things up a bit from a traditional crumble. It has a cake layer, which is topped with the apple mixture and the crumble. This makes for a great dessert which is equal parts indulgent and nutritious.

Here is the recipe for the Apple Crumble Bars!
Ingredients
For the topping
- Apples, chopped - 1 cup
- Brown Sugar - 1⁄4 cup
- Cinnamon powder - 1⁄2 tsp
- Chilled butter - 1 tbsp
- Lemon juice - 1 tsp
- Chilled chopped butter - 1⁄2 cup
- All purpose flour - 1⁄2 cup
- Oats - 1⁄4 cup
- Chopped almonds - 1⁄4 cup
- Caster sugar - 1⁄2 cup
- Cinnamon powder - 1⁄4 tsp
- All purpose flour - 1 cup +1tsp
- Butter - 1⁄3 cup
- Milk - 1⁄2 cup
- MILKMAID - 3⁄4 cup
- Baking powder -1 tsp
- Baking soda - 1⁄2 tsp
- Almonds, chopped - 1⁄4 cup
- Vanilla essence/ extract -1 tsp

Method
For the topping
1. In a bowl, mix together the chopped apples with the sugar, cinnamon powder & lemon juice.
2. Add the butter & mix well.
For the crumble
1. Take the chopped butter in a bowl. Add the flour, oats, caster sugar, cinnamon powder & chopped almonds.
2. Mix everything together with a very light hand.
3. Keep it in the refrigerator to keep the mixture chilled, before putting it on the cake batter.
For the cake
1. Sift the flour (only the 1 cup), baking powder & baking soda.
2. Cream the butter, condensed milk & vanilla essence and whisk till it gets fluffy & the colour changes.
3. Make a batter by mixing the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, alternating with milk.
4. Dust the chopped almonds with 1 tsp flour & fold in the batter.
5. Pour in a 10" x 7" greased & lined rectangular baking pan.
6. Put the apple mixture over the batter & swirl lightly.
7. Top with the crumble mix.
8. Bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees celcius for 30-35 minutes.
9. Serve warm with custard/ ice cream/ whipped cream.
