A sweet sliceable treat for everyone

Hi everyone. We keep on celebrating a lot of occasions like mothers’ day, children’s day, a birthday, a bouncing new baby and so many more. The list is countless. When I first moved to Hyderabad, I used to think that people here are only into biryani. But guess what, that is not entirely true. Home baking is a much loved passion of many Hyderabadis and they love inviting people over and dining together. Well, today we have a few stunning cake ideas that you can make any occasion super special. Let others take a sweet bite out of life.

Vanilla Sponge Cake with Strawberry-Meringue Buttercream

Vanilla is the safest of them all and goes pretty well with every occasion. It is a light-as-air chiffon cake and wonderful to make when you have guests over, or even to receive :D. It consists of three pounds of strawberries (you heard that right!) which is equally divided between layers of ethereal whipped cream frosting. Last but not the least there is a layer of sugar dust all over on top which gives it a beautiful look.

Tip: If you need to create vertical stripes of buttercream, jut use a small offset spatula and create them.

Carrot Cake with White-Chocolate Frosting

We all have a friend who adores carrot cake. Well, I have plenty. This consists of white chocolate which adds structure and sweetness to the cream. Then we have cream cheese frosting which helps the circular ruffles hold their shape. One can use a pastry bag that has a petal tip to create this magnificent piece.

Chocolate-and-Vanilla Zebra Cake

Ever felt like baking a cake hat would leave the guests awestruck? If yes, this cake is for you. And the best part is it is pretty easy to make, yet looks super fancy. It has striking stripes that is intelligently hid beneath a heavy layer of chocolate frosting. The patterns are created by alternating vanillas and chocolate batters in the middle of the pan, until you make a handful of layers.

Tip:For the strongest contrast, one may use dark cocoa powder.

Take my word for it, if you want to be the star of any party or may be a bake sale, try your hands at this one. It is extra moist with creamy vanilla frosting which is topped with loads of sprinkles. One need not buy sprinkles at a store , but can make them at home by piping long thin slices of icing on parchment paper and allowing them to dry and then they are broken. This will amp up your funfetti factor. You can also customise it with your choice of colour.

This particular one is one of my mother’s favourite and nobody makes it better than her. She is a home baker and the most important reason for her to love this one is that it is so fancy, yet so easy to pull off. It has three must have ingredients – sugar, spice and a little frosting. Layers of cakes are topped on one another with salted caramel frosting between them. The flavour of apple sauce makes it very rich in flavour and very different from the other cakes.
